Meet Lucas: Our Inspiring 2025 CMN Champion

We are thrilled to introduce Lucas, our 2025 Children’s Miracle Network Champion, whose journey of strength and resilience has inspired us all. Diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in April 2024, Lucas has faced challenges with remarkable courage and determination.

It all began when Lucas couldn’t seem to shake off a persistent flu. After a week of symptoms, his family took him to the ER. Blood tests revealed alarmingly low blood counts, leading to a swift airlift to Anchorage for critical care. Once stabilized with blood transfusions and platelets, a bone marrow draw confirmed the Leukemia diagnosis, and treatment began within days.

Prior to this diagnosis, Lucas was a healthy, active little boy who rarely visited the doctor. His only symptom was joint pain, which was initially attributed to his new hockey hobby. Little did anyone know, it was a precursor to something much more serious.

Lucas spent three days in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) before transferring to the general pediatric ward for another 13 days. His journey has included multiple chemo transfusions, lumbar punctures, and a month of oral chemotherapy at home.

Throughout his treatment, Lucas has shown incredible strength, overcoming many obstacles along the way. He’s faced difficulties walking due to pain, battled extreme hunger and mood swings from steroids, and managed the emotional strain of being away from home and his beloved dog.

Despite these challenges, Lucas has amazed us all by conquering his fear of accessing his port and learning to swallow pills with just water at the tender age of four. His resilience is truly inspiring.

Lucas continues to receive chemotherapy through his port every 10 days, dealing with bouts of nausea and fatigue. Yet, his spirits remain high, and he is regaining his energy levels. His positive outlook is infectious, as he proudly says, “I’m kicking cancer’s hiney!”

Lucas’s story reminds us of the strength and determination that resides in each of us. As our 2025 CMN Champion, he embodies the hope and resilience needed to overcome even the most daunting challenges. We are honored to have Lucas represent our cause, and we look forward to supporting him and other brave children like him in their fight against illness.

Join us as we celebrate Lucas’s courage and the inspiring journey he’s on. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of children and families battling health challenges.
